We install floors for vehicle showrooms, service receptions, workshops and MOT bays, from Stoke-on-Trent, Stafford and Stone to Burton upon Trent, Cannock, Lichfield and Tamworth. Being based in the county means we can survey quickly and plan work around your opening hours.

What a showroom floor has to do

A showroom floor is part of how vehicles are presented. It needs to look clean and consistent under bright lighting, and it has to cope with cars being driven in and out, display stands, customer footfall and regular cleaning. Resin gives a seamless finish without tile joints to crack or collect dirt, and it can be specified to meet each of those demands. Our blog on why resin suits showrooms covers the general benefits.

Hot-tyre pick-up resistance

Hot-tyre pick-up is one of the most common problems with showroom and garage floor coatings. When a car is driven in, its tyres are warm. Heat and the plasticisers in the rubber can soften a weak coating, and when the car is moved later the coating lifts with the tyre or is left marked and stained. It usually happens with thin, low-grade paints or coatings that have not been laid on properly prepared concrete.

To avoid it, we:

  • Prepare the slab by diamond grinding with vacuum extraction so the system bonds into sound concrete rather than sitting on laitance or old paint.
  • Specify resin systems with suitable thickness, hardness and chemical resistance for vehicle traffic.
  • Use tough polyurethane topcoats where appropriate to resist tyre marking, abrasion and staining.
  • Allow full cure before vehicles are driven on, and give clear guidance on return-to-service times.

Gloss finishes and colours

Most showrooms want a high-gloss floor that reflects light and makes vehicles stand out, though satin finishes are also popular because they show fewer marks. Colours can be chosen to suit your brand or the manufacturer’s showroom guidelines, and different colours can be used to zone the space:

  • Display areas in a feature colour or decorative finish.
  • Customer walkways and reception areas in a contrasting tone.
  • Handover bays and entrances with added slip resistance where floors may get wet from vehicles and footwear.

Flake and metallic options are covered on our decorative resin flooring page.

Workshop and MOT bays

Behind the showroom, the workshop needs a harder-working floor. Oils, fuels, brake fluid and coolant spills, dropped tools, jacks and vehicle lifts all take their toll. A chemically resistant resin floor that can be cleaned easily helps keep the workshop safe and presentable, and line marking can identify bays, walkways and MOT test areas. Our garage and workshop flooring page explains the systems we use in more detail.

Case study: car garage, Cheltenham

At a car garage in Cheltenham, the existing ceramic tiles were removed with a ride-on mechanical tile lifter, and the floor was ground with vacuum extraction to remove residual adhesive and weak screed. A primer with a full sand scatter was followed by a hand-laid smoothing screed, then a flexible, flow-applied polyurethane topping and a coloured, UV-stable polyurethane coating with good abrasion and chemical resistance.

The work was completed over four phases so the business could keep trading. A screed was also laid to the pit floors of the bays to an SR1 standard, and the area in front of the MOT bays received a second coat with glass beads added for non-slip properties.

Keeping your showroom open

We know a closed showroom means lost sales. Projects can be phased so part of the building stays open, and work can be planned out of hours where possible. Preparation is carried out with vacuum-extracted grinding to keep dust to a minimum. We manage the project from survey to handover, giving you one point of contact. We also work with dealerships and garages throughout the county, as described on our resin flooring Staffordshire page.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best floor for a car showroom?

A seamless resin floor is usually the best choice for a car showroom. Epoxy or polyurethane systems laid on properly prepared concrete give a gloss or satin finish, resist tyre marking and chemicals, and are easy to clean. Colours can be chosen to suit your brand.

What causes hot-tyre pick-up on garage floors?

Hot-tyre pick-up happens when warm tyres soften a weak or poorly bonded coating, which then lifts or stains when the car is moved. It is avoided by preparing the concrete properly and using a resin system with suitable thickness and resistance for vehicle traffic.

Can you install a showroom floor without closing the business?

Often, yes. Work can be phased so parts of the showroom stay open, and some stages can be scheduled out of hours. At a car garage in Cheltenham, the floor was completed over four phases so the business could continue trading throughout.

Do you cover car showrooms across Staffordshire?

Yes. We are based in Newcastle-under-Lyme and work throughout Staffordshire, including Stoke-on-Trent, Stafford, Burton upon Trent, Cannock, Lichfield and Tamworth, as well as across the wider UK. Being local means we can arrange site surveys and respond to enquiries quickly.
