Car Garage Cheltenham
Cheltenham, UK
Description
This project involved the refurbishment of a car garage floor in Cheltenham to enhance its durability and functionality. The existing ceramic tile flooring was removed and replaced with a high-performance polyurethane system, providing a seamless, durable, and chemically resistant surface suitable for a busy automotive environment.
Project Scope
- Utilized a ride-on mechanical tile lifter to efficiently uplift existing ceramic tiles.
- Employed an Innovatech three-phase mechanical grinder with vacuum attachment to eliminate residual adhesives and weak screed, ensuring a solid substrate.
- Applied a primer with a full sand scatter to create a mechanical key for the subsequent smoothing screed.
- Hand-laid a smoothing screed to achieve a level surface, followed by mechanical grinding to prepare for the final coating.
- Applied Resdev Pumathane SL, a three-component, flow-applied, flexible polyurethane topping, topped with Resdev Pumador DD Coloured, a UV-stable polyurethane coating with excellent abrasion and chemical resistance.
Project Overview
The project commenced with the removal of existing ceramic tiles using a ride-on mechanical tile lifter. Subsequently, the floor was mechanically ground to remove residual adhesives and weak screed, ensuring a solid base for the new flooring system. A primer with a full sand scatter was applied to create a mechanical key, followed by the hand application of a smoothing screed. After curing, the surface was prepared for the final coating using an STR mechanical grinding machine. The Resdev Pumathane SL polyurethane topping was then applied, providing a flexible and durable surface. To achieve the desired finish, Resdev Pumador DD Coloured, a UV-stable polyurethane coating with excellent abrasion and chemical resistance, was applied. The project was completed over four phases to accommodate the client’s operational requirements, allowing the business to continue trading without interruption. Additionally, the team installed a screed to the pit floors of the bays, achieving an SR1 standard. The area in front of the M.O.T bays received a second coat of Resdev Pumador DD Silk with incorporated glass beads to provide non-slip properties. The client expressed high satisfaction with the completed floor, noting the team’s reliability and flexibility in meeting project demands.
